I Got a Sewing Machine for Christmas Pinterest Tuesday!

Yes, you read that right.  Pinterest Mondays are being moved over to Tuesdays!  And if you haven't noticed yet, Funky Pink Cupcakes got a makeover!  So excited and love the new look.  As stated in the post title, I was lucky enough to receive a sewing machine for Christmas and since then have been trying my hand at lots of cool little projects, mostly inspired (of course) by Pins.  These are some of the cute things I am attempting to make!  And don't forget to check out my giveaway and enter now!

This would be perfect for those Disneyland days!

So cute and simple!

Love this clutch!

I actually made something similar to this, I will share it with you soon!

Another super cute clutch!

So Much Going on in Our House!

One thing Matt and I tend to have in common is some serious procrastination when it comes to projects around the house.  We have been on break for two weeks already, and yet all our house projects we planned to tackle are just now getting started.  After seeing our accent walls and our white furniture against the goldy beige color of the walls when we moved in, we (meaning me) decided the walls needed to be painted white.  That's a lot of walls.  And ceilings.  In every room.  Also, I knew before we even put in an offer in on the house that we would be painting the kitchen cabinets.  Which means sanding said cabinets before painting can even begin.  The past two days have been full of hard work.  Obviously we are not even close to being finished yet and here is what my house looks like now.

The good news is that the living room is mostly done.  Right now it's just holding furniture from other rooms in the house that are still being worked on.  However, the white paint has made a HUGE difference in the overall light and brightness of the rooms.  Such an improvement.  We should hopefully be finishing up the dining room and kitchen over the next couple of days.  I can't wait to get my house back!

Oh, and the really good (I think) news?  Due to our extremely messy painting techniques, the hubs has finally agreed to our summer project---refinishing the floors!

Straw Wreath

Hello readers!  Today I have another project from our wine and craft afternoon.  This one comes from my bff Kristen.  Even though this one has a Christmassy feel, if you used different colored straws, you could make them for pretty much anything.  We also discovered while crafting that the straws would look super cute as a picture frame or a mirror.  In other words, a very versatile project!

The first step is to find striped straws in the color of your choice.  First, trace a circle on a piece of cardstock and glue full size straws around the circle.

Then cut some of the straws in half.

Glue the smaller pieces around the circle, filling in the blank spaces.

Keep going until the whole circle is completely covered.  Here is what you will end up with!

How cute would it look with a mirror in the center?  Might be doing this with all those leftover straws from the wedding!  Don't forget to check out this week's giveaway and enter to win!

Record Bookends!

Last week some of the girls came over to mi casa for a wine and craft day.  They were kind enough to share some of their projects with me and now I get to share them with you!  This one comes from my darling friend Lisa, who is super crafty and creative.  This project was way easy and the final results come out super cute, especially for those of you who are into music.  The first step is to get at least two records that you don't mind sacrificing.  It also helps if the records have cool labels, but you will not be able to listen to these again, so choose wisely!  Once you have your records, boil a big pot of water.  It needs to be legit boiling (we tried hot water from the tap and it definitely didn't work).  Take the boiling water and put it into a baking pan.

Put the record in the boiling water.  The water should come up to right below the label.  You will see the record starting to become pliable within seconds.  Once it is bendable, pull it out of the water.

Place the record on the counter or a hard surface.  Use a cutting board to shape the record.  Press the cutting board into the pliable portion of the record to shape it as a book end.  Hold it for about a minute.  Check the shape and make sure it is going to stand up on its own.  If you need to reshape, insert it back in the water and mold it again.  Here is the finished product:

Definitely going to be making some of these for the hub's office!  After we got the water boiling, I think this project took maybe five minutes.  So cute!  Thanks for sharing Lisa!

Check Out My Feature and a Giveaway!

Hey readers!  Hope everyone had a safe and healthy New Year!  Hard to believe it is 2012 already!  One of my main goals for the year is to keep up with this blog on a daily (or almost daily!) basis.  I have so much fun with it and it is such a great creative outlet.  It has been really rewarding to see my readership and followship (don't think that's actually a word, but it is in blog land!) grow.  One of the best ways to attract more readers is through link parties on other blogs, and this week, I was a featured pick over on the Sasse life!  My first feature!  So exciting to see my project there, please support Kim and her blog and check it out!

Now for the giveaway!  I had tons of fun using these glittery wine glasses (see the post here) on New year's Eve and as promised am going to give away four of them!  This contest is for two silver and two copper glitter wine glasses, handcrafted by yours truly.  Here's how to enter:
1.  Follow my blog (if you don't already)
2.  Leave a comment on this post
and for a bonus entry...
3. "Like" my business page on Facebook!
All entries must be submitted by next Wednesday, January 11th.  Winner will be decided on Thursday, January 12th.  Winner will be notified by email, so please make sure you include your email address in the comment section so I know how to get a hold of you!
